For all the Off-Roaders and DP bikers and Meerkatte and Stofkatte . . . .
Just some short scenic routes in the area that mostly avoids the tar, that we’ve been told are nice routes to drive, this is all word of mouth as we are not bikers ourselves!
Please note that these are all dirt/gravel roads and that the road conditions can change overnight, and some bad nasties may develop quickly, particularly in the rainy season! Also note that there are often ditches and holes washed out of the roads which may take months for the roads department to fill up properly.
1. Ezemvelo Road R907
START : Turn off from the R25 at : 25°46’05.0"S 28°46’07.8"E USE THIS START! ELSE YOU WILL HAVE A LONG STRETCH THAT YOU HAVE TO SHARE WITH COAL TRUCKS
Continue on the dirt road to : 25°46’26.9"S 28°47’11.4"E and turn left
!!Look out for coal trucks for about the first kilometer after you have turned left!!
Continue along the R907 up to : 25°41’27.6"S 28°50’57.2"E
3. Balmoral School Road and Poort Pad
Turn off from the N4 at : 25°52’09.8"S 28°58’17.6"E continue Northwards
Cross the road and go left at the junction towards : 25°51’42.2"S 28°58’16.8"E
Cross the railway line and continue towards : 25°51’15.7"S 28°58’35.1"E
Continue all the way towards : 25°42’07.4"S 29°05’51.3"E
Turn left onto the R544, and go to : 25°37’55.2"S 29°06’55.3"E
Enjoy the poort!!
All the way to : 25°35’09.6"S 29°06’09.5"E
2. Zusterstroom Road
Turn off from the R25 at : 25°38’41.5"S 28°53’17.3"E continue on the tar road which then becomes a dirt road
Make a stop at the Tea Garden for some refreshments at : 25°36’30.5"S 29°00’31.6"E
Continue all the way to : 25°35’09.5"S 29°06’09.6"E
4. Lankloof, Loskop Dam Nature Reserve border to Loskop Dam Wall
Look out for animals on this route, as the fences are not allways well maintained
On the R544 turn off towards the Lankloof at : 25°33’07.7"S 29°04’18.4"E
At the T-Junction : 25°25’35.1"S 29°12’42.7"E turn right and follow the road
At the T-Junction : 25°19’51.6"S 29°16’42.8"E turn right and follow the road
At the T-Junction : 25°23’07.4"S 29°21’04.6"E You have 2 choices :
Turn right to the Loskop Dam wall, OR
Turn left to : 25°09’47.3"S 29°23’36.1"E to go to Lighthouse Barista Cafe
